Jute farmers busy in separating fibre

GAIBANDHA, Aug 1 (BSS): Separation of fibre from the decomposed jute plants is going on in full swing in all the seven upazilas of the district during the current season.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 142,288 hectares of land were brought under jute cultivation in the district this year with the production target of 1 56,594 bale of jute.

Now, the growers are busy in separating the fibre from the decomposed jute plants kept under water and also drying up the fibre in the sun to prepare them for selling in the markets.

The farmers are very happy as they are getting better prices of their produces this year.

According to Chief Inspector of Jute Mokbul Hossain, per maund (40 kg) of jute is being sold in the local markets between Tk 1,400 and Tk 1,600 as per quality.
