CHATTOGRAM, Oct 20: The Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) Corporation (BD) Ltd, a subsidiary of Young-one Corporation on the south bank of the Karnaphuli in Chattogram, eyes a big boost from opening of the first ever tunnel under a river in the country.
The 'Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel' is scheduled to be opened to traffic on October 28 next.
The KEPZ is being developed as a world class and environment-friendly green EPZ. A total of 42 industries of 15 foreign investors have already been set up in the KEPZ. The 42 factories are exporting goods worth 400 million US dollars per year. Besides eight more industries are under construction, officials of KEPZ said.
Talking with The Financial Express, Managing Director (MD) of KEPZ Lt Col (Retd) Md Shahjahan said, "After inauguration of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel the investment in KEPZ will increase gradually."
He also said, "KEPZ is located on the south bank of the Karnaphuli opposite to the Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport and close to the country's major sea-port in Chattogram. The zone is 20km away from the city."
