Maize price comes down in Thakurgaon

THAKURGAON, July 1 (UNB): Maize farmers in Thakurgaon district are not getting fair price of their produce due to its low demand.

Maize is grown twice in a year-once in the Rabi season and again in the Kharip-1 season.  The crop grown from October 16 to March 15 is termed Rabi maize and the one produced from March 16 to July 15 is called Kharip-1 maize.

Harvesting of Rabi maize ends in the month of March and harvesting of Kharip-1 maize is now about to end.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), maize was cultivated on 18,800 hectares of land in the Rabi season and in the Kharip-1 season, it was cultivated on 15,270 hectares of land.
