CHITTAGONG, Jan 15: The Chittagong Port has installed one scanner at Gate No. 2 of the New-mooring Container Terminal (NCT), which is running on a trial basis.
The FS 6000 model scanner procured by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) will be inaugurated this month, sources said.
On Sunday, members of the NBR, the commissioner of Chattogram Customs House (CCH) and officials of 5R Associates inspected the operational activities of the container scanner.
The Chittagong port has planned to install a total of six scanners to facilitate smooth export-import trade.
On January 4 last year, NBR signed an agreement with Nuctech Company Limited, a Chinese partially state-owned security inspection products company. Following the agreement, two scanners were installed on February 17.
According to the Port data, of the 20 jetties at the port, shipping operations are currently carried out at 19 jetties in the three terminals - General Cargo Berth, Chittagong Container Terminal and New Mooring Container Terminal.
There are a total of 12 gates at the Chittagong port jetties. Five were installed in 2009 and two mobile scanners were installed in 2017.
