RANGAMATI, July 23 (BSS): Over 100 farmers living at four hamlets, locally known as Mushroom Palli on the outskirts of Rangamati town, are cultivating mushroom commercially as it has proved to be profitable for them.
"I am cultivating mushroom commercially as it is more profitable than any other vegetable we grow around our homesteads." said Minoti Bala Chakma of Rangapani Mushroom Palli Wednesday.
"It is profitable because its production cost is nominal while its output and price are much higher than other vegetable we grow at our villages," maintained Ms Bala.
"I can produce around 10 kilogram of mushroom a day. I sell those at Tk.130 to Tk.160 per kilogram at local markets," she said.
Many youths here are becoming self-reliant gradually by cultivating the crop commercially around their homesteads, she said.
Rangamati Mushroom Centre (RMC) has been providing necessary support to the farmers in the village to boost mushroom production in the district.
