Warning against excessive dependence on artificial intelligence (AI), experts at a workshop said the technology should complement, not replace, human intellect, ethics and professional judgement.
"AI should become a mirror of human intelligence, not a substitute for human wisdom," Shafiqul Alam, an FCA, FCMA and FCS, said in his keynote speech at the event.
Bizz Solutions PLC and Chartered Technical Training Institute (CTTI) organised the workshop titled 'AI for professionals: Future prospects and challenges' at the Professor Dr. Abdullah Faruk Multipurpose Hall of Dhaka University on Friday.
The daylong event brought together students, professionals, entrepreneurs, academicians and corporate representatives, says a press statement.
Shafiqul Alam said responsible and ethical use of AI can significantly enhance productivity, efficiency, innovation and corporate governance.
For finance and accounting professionals, AI can serve as an effective support tool in areas such as financial reporting, regulatory compliance and international business practices, he noted. He also stressed that adherence to global reporting standards would help local firms attract foreign investment, mobilise international funds and form joint ventures, thereby strengthening the national economy and creating jobs.
However, he expressed concern over the growing reliance on AI-driven simplified learning, particularly among younger users, warning that excessive dependence on AI could erode creativity, analytical skills and foundational knowledge.
Shafiqul Alam stressed that future professionals will require more than traditional accounting knowledge such as International Accounting Standards (IAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
