Panchagarh Boro farmers happy over fair price

PANCHAGARH, May 20 (BSS): Farmers in Panchagarh are delighted to get a bumper yield and satisfactory price of Boro paddy during the current season.

Farmers of the district have already started harvesting the Boro paddy with much enthusiasm.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Panchagarh said a total of 33, 832 hectares of land were brought under Boro cultivation in the district this year with the production target of 1, 34, 709 tonnes of rice.

Farmers and DAE officers have attributed the achievement to congenial weather condition, timely supply of agri-inputs and efforts by the department.

The existing price of Boro paddy is also encouraging for the farmers. Presently, paddy is being sold between Taka 780 to 820 per maund at different local markets of the region.

Subash Chandra, a Boro farmer of Sadar Upazila said he earned Tk 0.1 million by selling Boro paddy cultivated on five bighas of land. While his production cost was only Tk 40, 000.

Nazrul Islam Deputy Director of Panchagarh (DAE) said smooth supply of water and agri-inputs such as fertilisers and pesticides boosted wheat cultivation in the region.
