RANGPUR, Sept 8 (BSS): Proper care of domestic animals must be ensured for boosting the prospective animal husbandry sector to cut poverty and bring fortune to rural people.
Hundreds of rural people have already achieved self-reliance through commercial livestock rearing, cultivation of Jumbo and Napier variety grasses and marketing those successfully in recent years in the region, speakers said while speaking at cattle head vaccination camps.
BRAC, an NGO, organised the cattle vaccination camps at the houses of Abul Hossain and Rafiqul Islam at Taluk Esad Fakirtari village in Sadar union of Pirgachha upazila here Monday afternoon.
It arranged the camps under its Social Empowerment Programme to protect the cattle from anthrax during this current rainy season and post-flood period in rural areas.
Rural Livestock Physician Rostam Ali immunised more than 200 cows with
vaccination against anthrax in these vaccination camps.
Pirgachha Upazila Coordinator of BRAC Mohammad Tariq Hossain, President of local community-based organisation 'Palli Samaj' Marjina Begum, female farmer Kamy Rukhsana and local elite in the area addressed the camps. A large number of people, including male and female farmers, local
public representatives, male and female community leaders and elite were
present.The speakers also suggested that the farmers and common people take proper care of their cattle head and vaccinate them timely to protect them from various diseases especially those that break out during the rainy seasons and post-flood period.
They said there are tremendous scopes for boosting animal
husbandry sector in rural areas to make rural people, including
women, economically solvent and socio-economically empowered by alleviating poverty.
