Rain submerges crops on 0.14m hectares in 32 dists

The heavy rainfall that had occurred across the country in the recent days submerged standing crops on 0.14 million (1.45 lakh) hectares of land in 32 districts mostly located at south-west and south-eastern parts of the country, reports BSS
Sources at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said that standing crops including Aus paddy, Aman seedbeds, Transplanted Aman (T-Aman), Broadcast Aman or B-Aman, vegetable, chili and betel-leaf on 1, 45,236 out of 7, 15,656 hectares of land have already submerged in rainfall in the 32 districts.
According to a preliminary report, the recent inundation caused damage to Aus crops on 55,505 hectares out of 3,67,063 hectares of land, Aman seed beds on 47,058 hectares out of 1,19,538 hectares, T-Aman on 18,741 hectares out of 86,469 hectares, vegetables on 19,405 hectares out of 96,300 hectares, B-Aman on 2665 hectares out of 26,788 hectares, chilli on 1361 hectares out of 11,477 hectares and betel-leaf on 501 hectares out of 8,021 hectares of land.
The worst affected districts are Chittagong, Noakhali, Narail, Jalakati, Patuakhali, Barguna, Khulna, Satkhira, Jessore, Jenidah, Chuadanga, Feni, Cox's Bazar, Barisal, Faridpur, Laxmipur,Magura and Pirojpur.
Highest crop damage was recorded in Chittagong district where transplanted Aman-seedbed, Aus paddy, vegetables and T-Aman on 34,580 out of 55,361 hectares of land have been inundated.
In Noakhali, the second worst-affected district, different crops like Aman seedbed, Aus, T-Aman and vegetables on 22, 547 hectares out of 65,517 hectares of land have been inundated, it said.
DAE Additional Director (monitoring), Krishibid Chatanya Kumar Das told the news agency that they have plans to disburse some late-variety crops seedlings among the flood-affected farmers for cultivation and help minimise their losses from the inundation."
He, however, said that the programme would be implemented depending on the availability of seedlings and financial assistance from the government.
The other flood-affected districts are Kushtia, Khulna, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rajbari, Shariatpur, Comilla, Pabna, Chandpur, Sylhet, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Bandarban, Bagherhat and Chapainawabganj.
