Raise taxes on tobacco, says speakers

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, May 25 (BSS): Speakers at a meeting demanded raising taxes on tobacco and tobacco-related products in the upcoming budget to discourage their use.

Non-government organisations - Bangladesh Center for Development Programme (BCDP) and Anti-Smoking Coalition - jointly organised the meeting at the conference room of Chapainawabganj Municipality Saturday.

Mayor of Chapainawabganj Municipality Abdul Matin was present in the programme as the chief guest, with Anti-Smoking Coalition Chapainawabganj district unit convenor Abdul Hannan in the chair.

The speakers also urged the authorities concerned for launching massive awareness campaign against danger of tobacco and tobacco-related diseases.
