South Korean company PH Creative (BD) Ltd on Monday signed a land lease agreement with the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) to establish a diversified manufacturing industry in the BEPZA Economic Zone, reports UNB.
The firm will invest $24.03 million to set up a plant for manufacturing tents, camping items, garment accessories, and bags and luggage.
The agreement was signed at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka. Md Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA, and Jin Ho Bae, Chairman of PH Creative (BD) Ltd, inked the deal on behalf of their respective organisations.
Major General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain, Executive Chairman of BEPZA, witnessed the signing ceremony.
According to the agreement, PH Creative (BD) Ltd will produce a wide range of outdoor equipment, including steel, aluminum, and iron frames, fiberglass poles, tents, sleeping bags, and camping chairs.
The factory will also manufacture various tent accessories, trolley bags, handbags, and garment accessories such as toggles and beads.
The project is expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 2,000 Bangladeshi nationals, contributing to the local economy and labour market.
Welcoming the investment, the BEPZA Executive Chairman thanked the South Korean company for choosing the BEPZA Economic Zone as its destination.
He further encouraged South Korean investors to explore high-tech sectors in Bangladesh, specifically highlighting potential opportunities in semiconductors and electronic products.
The signing ceremony was attended by BEPZA Member (Engineering) Abdullah Al Mamun, Member (Finance) ANM Foyzul Haque, Executive Director (Public Relations) ASM Anwar Parvez, and other senior officials from both BEPZA and the investing company.
