Singapore's manufacturing output falls 4.8pc in March

SINGAPORE, Apr 27 (Xinhua): Singapore Economic Development Board announced on Friday that the country's manufacturing output decreased 4.8 per cent year-on-year in March, compared to a revised 2.6 per cent increase this February.

Excluding biomedical manufacturing, the output declined 8.7 per cent year-on-year in March, compared to the revised 0.3 per cent hike in the previous month.

Meanwhile, on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, Singapore's manufacturing output decreased 2.6 per cent in March and excluding biomedical manufacturing, it fell 8.5 per cent.

In the first quarter of 2019, the city-state's manufacturing output declined 0.5 per cent year-on-year and excluding biomedical manufacturing, it declined 3.3 per cent year-on-year.

As for the performance of different clusters, the electronics cluster's output decreased 15.3 per cent year-on-year in March and 4.6 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter. The biomedical manufacturing cluster's output rose 13.7 per cent in the month and 12.9 per cent in the quarter.

The precision engineering cluster's output decreased 13.3 per cent in the month and 13.9 per cent in the quarter and the transport engineering cluster's output increased 1.8 per cent in the month and 5.5 per cent in the quarter.

The chemicals cluster's output decreased 2.7 per cent in the month but increased 0.1 per cent in the quarter, and the general manufacturing industries cluster's output grew 5.8 per cent in the month and 4.3 per cent in the quarter.
