Solidaridad facilitates Regenagri Certification for mango farmers

Solidaridad receives Regenagri Certification for its project-supported 500 mango farmers through a ceremony organised at the country office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, says a press release.

Solidaridad with support from DAE and mango exporters association has taken a conservation and rehabilitation approach of mango farming systems from July 2021.

As a part of this initiative, in 2022, Solidaridad in partnership with Control Union UK Limited, a renowned certification agency, signed an agreement for 500 smallholder mango farmers for regenagri certification. It focuses on topsoil regeneration, increasing biodiversity, improving the water cycle, enhancing ecosystem services, supporting bio sequestration and increasing resilience to climate change.

Under this scheme, 500 mango farmers within the cluster covering 187.291 hectares of land in Satkhira Sadar, Kollaroa and Talla upzilla were divided into groups with GIS-based location map.

The cluster developed 13 lead farmers and 13 input shop entrepreneurs to work on the ground.

Solidaridad expert team provided intensive training to the farmers on plantation of cover crops, netting the orchard, using Bio pesticides, compost, and ensure efficient use of water and energy in the orchard.

In addition, the intervention has ensured judicial use of chemicals, health and safety measures and maintain farm record book for traceability to ensure every component of the checklist of the certification requirements.
