RAJSHAHI, May 27 (BSS): Sustainable agricultural technology has become the demand of time for boosting farming outputs to feed the gradually increasing population in the country.
Speakers made the observation while speaking at the inaugural session of a three-day Regional Agriculture Technology Fair- 2015 that began on the premises of the office of the Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) here Tuesday.
Agriculture Information Office and DAE jointly organised the fair to project the modern technologies before farmers and others concerned to boost agriculture production in the region.
The speakers expressed the views that promotion of updated technologies was very much important to take forward the agriculture sector.
Technologists and researchers should take the responsibility of presenting their newly-invented technologies before the farmers in an easy way so that they can adopt it, they mentioned.
Sustainable agricultural technology as well as good seeds, fertilisers, irrigation and pest management will help to increase the production, they added.
Divisional Commissioner of Rajshahi Helaluddin Ahmed addressed the function as the chief guest, while Chief Scientific Officer of BRRI Dr Mostofa Kamal and Deputy Director of DAE Hazrat Ali spoke as the special guests.
Additional Director of the DAE Fazlur Rahman presided over the inaugural function.
The speakers urged the officials concerned to put in their collective efforts to uphold the success achieved in the agriculture sector in the days to come.
There was no need of importing rice in last three years as there was adequate production to feed the nation, they pointed out.
In his address, the chief guest mentioned that the government attached the highest priority to the agriculture sector and urged the field level officials and researchers to take the responsibilities of taking the government's services to the farmers' doorsteps.
