Livestock sector, including poultry, dairy and fisheries industries, got tax waiver on importing 13 categories of foods and equipments in the proposed budget for FY 15.
The poultry and dairy industries have been proposed to enjoy zero per cent import duty on sorghum, millet, guar meal and zeolite (powder/granular), on which 5, 10, 25, and 10 per cent import duties are now imposed respectively.
The budget proposed full exemption of these duties to reduce production cost of poultry foods and to help the poultry farm farmers who incurred significant losses in the outgoing financial year, FY 14, due to prolonged political turmoil.
The poultry, dairy and fisheries industries also got full tax exemption on importing NaCl solution special grade used in artificial insemination, first-aid boxes and kits, gynocological lubricant (in flask), Bullexcell QSF/ Biexcell QSF 250 ml, cow pregnancy test kits, universal syringe for artificial insemination, plastic canister, leather gloves for nitrogen handling, and pyrex granduated collection tube 15ml.
Now, 5-25 per cent import duties are applicable on import of these equipments.
