TCB begins onion OMS in Khulna today

KHULNA, Nov 20 (BSS): The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is going to begin sale of onion at Tk 45 per kilograms (kg) tomorrow here to help people buy the spice at a fair price.

"We will start open market sale (OMS) of onion tomorrow initially at five spots in the city," said Khulna Regional Officer of TCB Md Rabiul Morshed on Wednesday.

Onion, one of the main cooking ingredients in Bangladesh, will be sold in open markets in Tutpara area, in front of DC's office, Bottala near New Market, Daulotpur Bus stand and Moylapota intersection, he said.

To contain the soaring onion price, the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) has already instructed the TCB to sell the onion at a subsidised rate in the country, he mentioned.

"No one will get chance to stockpile onion and TCB will sell the essential item at the rate fixed by the government," he added.
