A five-day long training programme on survey methodology organised by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) ended on Wednesday with a hope for an appropriate modern sampling method to get vital crop statistics.
The BBS arranged the training programme titled "The sampling methodology on agricultural survey for 6 major and 106 minor crops" at its office.
Officials said the training course would help statistics officials adopt time-befitting method for conducting survey.
Issues of designing and conducting agriculture related surveys were taught in the training course, said Bidhan Baral, joint director of agriculture wing, BBS.
He said the training programme focused on the methodology of annual production estimates of crops, fisheries and livestock.
The sampling method training is being imparted with technical and financial support of United States Department of Agriculture-National Agricultural Statistics Service (USDA-NASS).
A total of 30 participants - 19 officials from BBS and 11 from other ministries and departments concerned - took part in the training course.
Secretary of Statistics and Informatics Division (SID) Kaniz Fatema inaugurated the training programme while Director General of BBS Mohammad Abdul Wazed chaired the inaugural session.
Additional Secretary of SID M. Shafiqul Islam and Md Baitul Amin Bhuiyan and USDA representative Ms. Sarah Hoffman, among others, were present.
