Labour minister tells May Day discussion

Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury has said that the government will continue tripartite cooperation among the government, employers and workers to resolve labour-related issues.

He said that this tripartite cooperation will help expand opportunities in the sector.

"The welfare of working people and the vision of a prosperous Bangladesh were central to the state philosophy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia,"he said while presiding over a discussion marking the May Day 2026 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital on Friday (May 1, 2026).

President Mohammed Shahabuddin was present

as the chief guest.

The minister said that the present government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is working to ensure workers' rights, safety, healthcare

and a decent working environment. He said that coordinated policy support helped maintaining a stable labour situation during the last Eid-ul-Fitr that ensured timely payment of wages, bonuses and leave facilities, which allowed workers to celebrate the last Eid with their families happily.
