RAJSHAHI, July 11 (BSS): US-Bangla Airlines Ltd., a new private airlines company, formally launched its domestic flights operations on Rajshahi-Dhaka-Rajshahi sector today.

The first flight took off from Shahmukhdum Airport in Rajshahi at around 4:30pm.

Starting from Dhaka, the airlines will initially operate three weekly flights - on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays -- on the route.

The new airlines launched business to tap growing air traffic on local routes as the number of passengers is growing steadily over the past years and tourism is increasingly becoming popular among middle income people.

Station-in-Charge of US-Bangla Airlines Badal Kumar Roy told the news agency that the airlines arranged special transports equipped with Wi-Fi for passengers to and from Rajshahi.

The large, fast, quiet and fuel-efficient turboprops would provide an ideal balance of passenger comfort with a reduced environmental footprint, he added.

The fares for a one-way trip from Rajshahi to Dhaka is Tk 3,200 including taxes. But, a promotional package from Tk 2,500 is going on at present, he added.

Earlier, national flag-carrier Bangladesh Biman re-launched three weekly flights - on Fridays, Sundays and Tuesdays -- on the route on April 7 after a lapse of long eight years.
