100KW solar mini grid to be set up in Kutubdia

Managing Director of GHEL Dr Mostaq Ahmmed and Executive Director and CEO of IDCOL Mahmood Malik exchanging documents after signing a Financing Agreement on behalf of their respective organisations in the city Monday.

A 100 kilowatt solar mini grid project will be set up at Lemshikhali Union under Kutubdia Island of Cox's Bazar to distributing electricity to households and shops, said a press release.
Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) Monday signed financing agreement with Green Housing and Energy Limited (GHEL) in this regard.
GHEL Managing Director Mostaq Ahmmed and IDCOL Executive Director and CEO Mahmood Malik signed the agreement on behalf of their organisations at IDCOL head office in the city.
Under the Project, GHEL will provide electricity to 400 shops and 120 households. The total cost of the project is Tk 40.8 million.
Out of the entire cost, IDCOL will provide 30 per cent as soft loan and 50 per cent as grant under IDCOL's Renewable Energy Program. The World Bank will provide the required loan and grant.
IDCOL has a vision to finance 1550 solar irrigation pumps, 50 solar mini grids, 450 bio-electricity plants and 30 biomass gasification based power plants by 2016.
