200,000 migrant returnees to get incentive under RAISE project

The government has undertaken a project to provide Tk 2.7 billion as incentive for 200,000 migrant workers who returned from abroad, reports UNB.
Senior secretary of the Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Dr Ahmed Munirus Salehin revealed this while speaking at a view-exchange meeting at Probashi Kallyan Bhaban in the city on Tuesday.
The government will implement the project titled 'Recovery and Advancement of Informal Sector Employment (RAISE)' with the support of the World Bank, he said.
Some 0.5 million workers returned from different countries in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and many of them are leading an inhuman life.
Under the project, 200,000 returnees will receive Tk 13,500 each from the government and the money will be disbursed by December, said Munirus Salehin.
Besides, other facilities such as loans and skills and entrepreneurship training will be provided for them to become self-reliant, he added.
Replying to a question, the secretary said those who returned during COVID pandemic will be enlisted under the project.
However, the government will think about those who returned after the pandemic, he said.
