3 firms awarded for bolstering BD-Japan business bonds

Three enterprises were awarded Saturday for their contribution to strengthening the business relations between Bangladesh and Japan, as the two countries seek to forge cooperation in yet greater perspectives.         

The Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) gave the 1st Business Excellence Award on the occasion of its 10th founding anniversary.

As per the citations, the awardees were adjudged best enterprises in doing business with Japan for export, doing business in domestic market and demonstrating innovations respectively.

OP-seed Company Bangladesh, Bangladesh Steel Rerolling Mills and Matin Spinning Mills Ltd received the laurels.    

The OP-Seed Company is the cent-percent Japanese-investment firm involved in production of over 100 types of products being exported to Japan.

Established in 1997 in the Chittagong export-processing zone, its export goods include LED tubelight, bulb, and black light.  

BSRM was awarded for serving Bangladesh with quality steels since 1952.

Matin Spinning won the award for introducing special kind of yarn named Napy Yarn produced from garment-cutting waste.

On this occasion, a special lecture on Japan-Bangladesh relationship and investment scenario in the country was arranged.

Former ambassador and present President of the Japan-Bangladesh Society JBS Matsushiro Horiguchi delivered the lecture, emphasising removal of barriers to doing business between the two countries.

"JBCCI has been playing its important role in realising the investment environment," he said.

He added: Bangladesh has been showing its conspicuous economic and social development.

Japanese Ambassador Shiro Sadoshima attended the ceremony as chief guest with JBCCI honourary executive director Dr AKM Moazzem Hossain in the chair. Present on the occasion among others were Kei Kawano, President of Japan External Trade Organisation, Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan and Shamsul Alam Jahangir of JBCCI.
