314 on primary list for export sector CIP status

The government has primarily prepared a list of 314 business persons in order to award them commercially important person (CIP) status for their outstanding export performance in 2022, officials said.
Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) prepared the list out of 329 applications. Of the recommended ones, some 283 are single applications and 31 group applications.
The initial list has been sent to the commerce ministry to examine whether the business persons or firms are defaulters in loan and tax related issues, they said, adding that the ministry would prepare a final list after the scrutiny.
A total of 329 firms applied from the country's 20 sectors. Some of the sectors are: raw jute, jute products (Jute yarn and twinine, jute carpet etc.), leather (crust/finished), leather goods (leather show, bag, wallet etc.), frozen foods, tea sector, Oven garments, agriculture items (vegetables, fruits, betel leaf, potato etc.).
Other sectors include argo processing, light engineering products, pharmaceutical products, handicrafts, specialised textile/home textile, ceramic tableware/other ceramic products, plastic goods, textile fabrics, computer software, computer service, and data processing.
Ship-building industry and melamine sector did not apply for the CIP award.
Due to a lack of export income, some 08 firms could not be included in the primary list as per the CIP (export) policy-2013. The list was prepared during a primary CIP selection committee meeting held at EPB in April last.
Besides, some applications could not be included in the list because of submitting multiple applications by a single person from one firm, according to the EPB.
