The UK's Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) announced Thursday a substantial reduction in fees by over 50 per cent to stimulate the uptake of professional accountancy qualification in Bangladesh.
The reduction in fees is part of ACCA's new strategy Global Thinking with a Local Perspective to get more Bangladeshi students and those in business obtaining industry standard accountancy accreditation, said a statement of the High Commission.
With over 10,000 students across the country this is the first time ACCA has developed a specific Bangladesh approach to develop more professional accountants.
Addressing guests at the event, the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Robert W Gibson said: "UK education has an excellent reputation internationally and ACCA has been providing global standard professional development in Bangladesh for many years. I am delighted that ACCA is launching this new strategy and furthermore making it attractive for Bangladeshi students and professionals to pursue".
The launch event included key representatives from education and professional development institutions, Chambers of Commerce & Industry, and financial institutions of Bangladesh.
Mr Richard Staunton, Head of Global Delivery for ACCA, presented the new strategy and detailed how its approach in Bangladesh will encourage and support those undertaking qualifications.
Special guest for the evening was the Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed who stated:"Through ACCA many Bangladeshi students from all parts of the community are getting the opportunity to develop in the important field of accountancy. This is crucial to the future growth of the country".
