Alam reelected CCCI chief

CHITTAGONG, Feb 16: Mahbubul Alam, Nurun Newaz Selim and Syed Jamal Ahmed have been re-elected president, senior vice president and vice president respectively of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry for another term of two years.
They have been elected for 2015-2016 by the elected directors of the CCCI at a meeting of the board of directors this morning, according to a statement.
Mr Alam, Selim and Jamal were also elected in the same posts in 2013-2014. This year all 24 directors from the MA Latif-backed panel were declared to have been elected unopposed as there were no contestants from any other group.
Commenting on the election of executives the president-elect Mahbubul Alam said, "We have shouldered greater responsibility as the businesses of the port city have elected us unopposed."
He said that currently the CCCI executives have been trying their best to ensure security of the businesses on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in transportation of their cargoes with the help of the law enforcers.
Alam was elected director of the CCCI as owner of M/S Alam Trading Corporation. He obtained post-graduate degree from Chittagong University and was elected social welfare secretary of CUCSU (Chittagong University Central Students Union).
He is also the president of Khatungonj Trade and Industries Association. Alam was elected vice president of the CCCI in 2007-08 and senior vice president of the same in 2011-12. He is a CDA (Chittagong Development Authority) board member nominated by the CCCI and governing body member of Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) under the PMO (Prime Minister's Office). He is director of International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh, executive board member of Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute and trustee of Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD).
Directors elected in the CCCI are-- AKM Akhtar Hossain, Anjan Shekhar Das, MA Motaleb, Mahbubul Huq Chowdhury, Mazharul Islam Chowdhury, Anwar Shawkat Afsar, Arif Iftekhar, Didarul Alam, Raqibur Rahman, Zahedul Huq, Sarwar Hasan Jamil, Sirajul Islam Jahirul Islam Chowdhury, Mahfuzul Haque Shah, Ohid Siraj Chowdhry, SM Shamsuddin, Habib Mohiuddin, Habibul Huq, Jahurul Alam, Kamal Mostafa Chowdhury and Amjad Hossain Chowdhury.
