AMTOB gets new president, vice-presidents

Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of Robi, has been elected president of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) for next two years.

He replaced Grameenphone's outgoing CEO Michael Foley.

The association also elected Erik Aas, CEO of Banglalink, as the new senior vice-president and Yasir Azman, CEO of Grameenphone (designate), as the vice-president respectively.

AMTOB took the decision at its annual general meeting at a city hotel on Tuesday, said a press release.

Assuming the new role, Mahtab said it is an honour and privilege for him to lead an industry that is the key enabler for the implementation of Digital Bangladesh vision.

"I am particularly excited to note that we are going to complete the noble mission of transforming the country into a full-fledged Digital Bangladesh by 2021," he said.

Teletalk's Managing Director Md. Shahab Uddin, AMTOB's Secretary General Brig. Gen. S M Farhad (Retd.), Ericsson's Country Manager Abdus Salam, Huawei's CEO Zhang Zhengjun, Nokia Solutions and Networks Bangladesh's CEO Rashed Haque, Banglalink's CCRAO Taimur Rahman, Grameenphone's CCAO Ole Bjorn, Robi's CCRO Shahed Alam and Teletalk's DGM Md. Mamunur Rashid were present on the occasion.

AMTOB represents all the five mobile telecom network operators in Bangladesh including Banglalink Digital Communications Ltd., Grameenphone Limited, Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited (Citycell), Robi Axiata Limited, and Teletalk Bangladesh Limited.

Its associate members are the top three network solution providers-L M Ericsson Bangladesh, Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited, and Nokia Solutions and Networks Bangladesh Limited.
