Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu  on Sunday stressed the need for increasing capacity of industries on compliance issue for surviving in the intensifying global competition.
He also laid emphasis on upgrading the quality of locally produced goods to compete with efficient players in the export market, reports BSS.
He was speaking at a function to inaugurate mobile calibration service of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) at a hotel in the city, said an official handout.
The BSTI introduced the hassle-free mobile calibration services for mills and factories in the country.
European Union (EU) and United Nations Industrial
Development Organisation (UNIDO) provided financial support for the services.
Joint Chief of the Ministry of Industries and Director of Better Quality Infrastructure (BQI) M Lutfar Rahman Tarafdar presided over the function while Industries Secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah, EU Ambassador in Dhaka William Hanna, director general of BSTI Iqramul Haque and technical consultant of UNIDO Dr Franz Fengtberger spoke.
Mr Amu expressed the hope that the calibration will play an important role in protecting the quality of local industrial products in the country.
On the occasion, four mobile calibration vans were handed over to the BSTI.
Talking to the news agency on Saturday, BSTI Director General Iqramul Haque said the mobile calibration services will also help check cheating in weighing of goods in the country.
Mr Haque said the country has huge small and large size mills and factories and machinery being produced from these industrial units needs to be calibrated.
"We will not only calibrate weighing machine but also large machinery (imported) at any parameter," he said.
