The authorities concerned have been directed to ensure quick completion of priority-based projects maintaining due quality.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu gave the directive while presiding over an evaluation meeting on the projects taken up in the recently-ended fiscal year (FY), 2013-2014, by corporations and organisations under the ministry of industries (MoI) in the city Wednesday, reports BSS.
The minister also warned of taking stern action against the people responsible for delay in implementing those.
"Priority projects under MoI such as Shahjalal Fertiliser Factory, Savar Leather Industry, API Industries Park and BSIC Industrial Park must be completed in time at any cost maintaining due quality," the minister said.
He sounded a note of warning saying, "If implementation of the projects is delayed due to negligence of someone, action will be taken against those responsible for it."
Mr Amu, also an advisory council member of the ruling Awami League, said activities of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) have not yet been desirably visible, adding, "Effective measures are needed to this end. Responsibility of the organisation will not be completed with only conducting some drives against adulteration."
The minister also directed the BSTI officials to strengthen drives against adulteration and formalin.
He further directed the officials concerned to prepare for taking over Shahjalal Fertiliser Factory from its builder soon after its completion. For this reason, he emphasised quick recruitment of technical manpower and taking measures of providing them with appropriate trainings.
Shahjalal Fertiliser Factory is being built with modern technology in Sylhet after long 20 years at a cost of Tk 54.09 billion with probable date for completion of the work by June 2015.
Around 90 per cent of work has already been completed. The maximum demand of the country will be met with the functioning of the factory having a capacity of producing 0.58 million tonnes of fertiliser per year.
