Apparel tech, fabric expos begin in city

The 20th Textech Bangladesh International Expo-2019 began in the city on Wednesday, showcasing technology, machinery and other related services concerning the apparel sector.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun inaugurated the four-day exhibition at the International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital.

The 16th Dhaka International Yarn and Fabric Show 2019 and the 38th Dye-Chem Bangladesh Expo-2019 were also inaugurated along with the Textech expo at the same venue.

The Conference and Exhibition Management Services (CEMS)-Global USA and Asia Pacific organised the exposition.

Speaking on the occasion, the industries minister termed Bangladesh a 'global leader' in terms of export of readymade garments.

He also stressed the need for product diversification and exploration of new markets to stay competitive in the world market.

The apparel sector has made significant contributions to the development of infrastructure and steady economic growth in the country, he said.

He also assured that his ministry will continue with policy supports to resolve any problems of the sector.

The minister said the apparel sector is growing day by day, but it also faces stiff competition in the global market. So, the factories need to maintain international standards.

As many as 1250 companies from 25 countries are showcasing their products and services at the expositions, which will remain open from 10:30am to 7:30pm daily.
