A three-day regional conference of rural development experts and the government representatives from Asia begins in Siem Reap, Cambodia today (Tuesday) to discuss plans to transform impoverished rural areas and improve the lives of rural people, reports UNB.
More than 200 rural development experts, including those from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), will meet government ministers from across Asia and the Pacific at the conference to be hosted jointly by IFAD and the government of Cambodia.
The conference will set out a strategy to transform rural areas into vibrant and economically viable communities - and will conclude with a concrete plan of action for IFAD and its partners and member states.
Speakers of the meet include Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, IFAD Associate Vice President John McIntire, Cambodian Agriculture Minister Ouk Rabun, Vietnamese Agriculture Minister Cao Duc Phat and Bangladesh State Minister for Finance MA Mannan.
