Asian Tourism Fair-2014 begins

A three-day Asian Tourism Fair-2014 (ATF) began at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city Thursday.

Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Rashed Khan Menon formally inaugurated the fair on the day.

Participating organisations have been offering special discounts in air fares, tour packages and many other attractive offers to the visitors.

More than 120 organisations, both local and foreign including those from Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan, China and Nepal, tour operators, hotels, resorts and travel trade bodies have taken part in the fair.

Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) and Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) have jointly organised the fair.

Speaking as the chief guest Rashed Khan Menon said, "Bangladesh is a country with immense potential in the travel and tourism sector and we have much to offer to tourists from different parts of the world".   

He said the government is taking some pragmatic initiatives for promoting the sector including making more investment.

He said, "I strongly believe that efforts of the government and private sector together will take this sector ahead to contribute substantially to the country's economy".

The fair will remain open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm for visitors. The entry fee for each visitor is Tk 20.
