A five-day international trade and tourism fair with participation of 10 countries began Wednesday in the capital aiming at giving a boost to regional trade and tourism sectors, reports BSS.
Around 100 exhibitors from participating countries are exhibiting products like consumer electronics, communication technology, machineries, food and beverage, healthcare products and service, personal care and beauty products, household products, fashion and accessories, arts and crafts are participating in this exhibition.
The 10 participating countries are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, Bhutan, Malaysia, Vietnam and host Bangladesh. Special pavilions are being set up by the companies from India and Pakistan.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Political Adviser H T Imam inaugurated the fair titled "9th Asian International Trade & Tourism Expo 2015" organised by CEMS USA at International Convention Centre at Bashundhara in the city.
President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Abdul Matlub Ahmad, Acting President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Humayun Rashid, Vice President of PHD Chamber Of Commerce and Industry of India Gopal S Jiwarajka and President of CEMS-Global-USA & Asia Pacific Meherun N Islam spoke as special guests.
The Prime Minister's adviser said there are still ample opportunities between Bangladesh and India in increasing regional trade volume. He hoped that this kind of fair will create platform for entrepreneurs to hold business to business (B2B) meeting as well as to increase people to people contacts among the regional countries.
Terming the recent Bangladesh visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as milestone of the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, Imam said Bangladesh and India will advance by joining hands together towards achieving the desire development goal.
The adviser said the existing excellent bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India will help to give a boost in regional connectivity among Bangladesh-India-Nepal-Bhutan.
