Bangladesh and Nepal have expressed their interests to share knowledge and best practices in sustainable forest management, renewable energy development, and climate resilience strategies.
The interests were expressed at a meeting between Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and Environment Minister of Bangladesh Saber Hossain Chowdhury at the office of the Nepalese Prime Minister in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
The long-standing mutual relations between the two countries, potential areas of cooperation on climate change, ways to increase trade possibilities, including electricity trade, and other bilateral issues were discussed in the meeting.
Prime Minister Dahal and Minister Chowdhury explored opportunities for collaboration on various environmental initiatives.
They expressed "mutual interest in exchanging knowledge and best practices in sustainable forest management, renewable energy development, and climate resilience strategies", according to a statement of the environment ministry issued in Dhaka.
Mr Dahal expressed his gratitude to the government of Bangladesh by mentioning the fact that a large number of Nepali students are getting education in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Dahal reaffirmed Nepal's commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable development.
Mr Chowdhury underscored Bangladesh's dedication to enhancing environmental sustainability and its proactive role in international climate forums. He acknowledged the potential for both nations to benefit from strengthened bilateral cooperation.
Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury and First Secretary of Bangladesh Embassy Md. Humayun Kabir and high officials of the government of Nepal were also present at the meeting.
