BB holds school banking confce, fair

BARISAL, May 16 (BSS) : School banking which has been introduced to encourage students to develop a savings habit from the early age, said speakers at the opening session of a school banking conference and fair held here Saturday.

"People cannot become famous without dreams and I think that school banking conference would encourage the students to dream to become self-reliant economically," said literary personality Selina Hossain while speaking at the conference held on the premise of Bangladesh Bank's (BB) Barisal office.

Divisional commissioner Md Gaus inaugurated the day-long conference as the chief guest. Executive director of the Khulna office of Bangladesh Bank Nizam Uddin Ahmed made a presentation on the school banking. General Manager of BB's Barisal office Nurul Alam Kazi presided over the conference.

In his presentation Nizam Uddin Ahmed said over 800,000 students have already opened bank accounts and their savings stood at Tk 7 billion (Tk 700 crore).
