BB to install fake note detectors in shopping malls

Bangladesh Bank (BB) is going to install fake currency detecting machines in city's shopping malls to prevent the counterfeit notes from entering the market during the Eid shopping, reports BSS.
The Central Bank would hand over 50 fake currency detectors to the Shop Owners' Association of the shopping malls on Sunday.
Talking to  the news agency, Dasgupta Asim, Executive Director of BB Currency Management Division, said people of the country used to shop largely centring the Eid-ul-Fitr.
"Fake currency detecting machines would be installed in city's big shopping malls like Basundhara City, Karnaphuli Garden City, Polwel Super Market so that nobody could inject fake note before Eid taking the opportunity of boosted shopping," he added.
The central bank executive director said the BB for the first time is providing such machines for the Shop Owners' Association althouth it had earlier distributed the machines to banks and law enforcement agencies.
The shopping malls have been selected with the help of the FBCCI, he added.
Apart from the capital, BB's regional offices at Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barisal, Bogra, Rangpur and Mymensingh would also distribute fake currency detector machines.
Besides, the committee for preventing fake currency is carrying out mass campaign to create awareness in districts and upazilas against the fake currency.
