Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) held the stakeholders' consultation workshop on "National Statistical Data Warehouse and Centre" on the BBS premises in the city Wednesday.
SDWH is defined as a central data store for managing all available data of interest, enabling the users to (re)use this data to create new data/new outputs, to produce necessary information and perform reporting and analysis, regardless of data's source, the workshop was told.
The SDWH supports the total statistical chain from data collection to data dissemination by offering unambiguous insight in all data sources. The main goal of Online Data Analysis Portal to be set up in SDWH is to allow dissemination of statistical data with a wide range of functionalities, said an expert from KOICA, Mr Chu Soo Cho, who made a presentation on the theme.
He said the data warehouse is a query-intensive environment. At any time, different users from inside or outside the country might be executing multiple, big or small, queries to perform all types of data analyses.
Setting up of the statistical data management software system including statistical data and meta data exchange (SDMX) requires an estimated cost of Tk 8.50 million for 2013-2015 period. Setting up of National Data Resource and Processing Centre will require Tk 800 million for 2015-2023 period. KOICA and Korean National Statistical Organisation will provide the technical support.
In his speech as the chief guest, Statistics and Informatics Division (SID) secretary Nojibur Rahman said better data and statistics will help the government monitor the progress and strengthen accountability.
He said a true data revolution would draw on existing and new sources of data to fully integrate statistics into decision making, promote open access to use of data.
"A well furnished statistical data warehouse is a prerequisite for well management of all these tasks," he added.
Special guest of the programme additional secretary of SID Azizur Rahman said BBS produces and preserves huge volume of data but there is no modern and well designed statistical data warehouse, disaster recovery and backup sitse. After implementation of the proj, ect BBS will meet the global need of Bangladesh data with security and reliability.
