A business delegation of the country's apex trade body will visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) soon to enhance bilateral trade and investment between the two brotherly countries.

Bangladesh has much potential to increase its trade with the UAE. There is a big opportunity for both the countries for enhancing two-way trade, said the head of the apex trade body.

"We will send our business delegation to the UAE to boost trade and investment soon," FBCCI President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed told the FE Sunday.

He said that they (FBCCI) had a meeting with the UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Saeed Bin Hajar Al Shahi recently in the capital.

The envoy of the UAE assured the country's business leaders that he will discuss about the simplification of visa procedures for Bangladeshi businessmen with his government (UAE) to boost bilateral trade.

He also proposed to set up a liasion office of its embassy in Chittagong to facilitate businessmen of the country.

The UAE envoy requested Bangladeshi businessmen to visit his country to increase bilateral trade and investment.

The UAE has invested around US$2.5 billion in telecommunication, banking, ceramics, construction, real estate and pharmaceutical sectors.

The UAE is a traditional market for export of Bangladeshi manpower. But some competitors, particularly neighbouring countries have spread false propaganda against Bangladesh.

At present about 2.3 million Bangladeshis are engaged in different jobs in the UAE.

The UAE will soon recruit some professional and skilled workers, especially doctors and engineers, from Bangladesh.

The UAE-based firm DP World has presented a multi-billion-dollar investment proposal for building a deep sea port in Bangladesh.

FBCCI President laid emphasis on regular exchange of views and sharing of knowldege between the businessmen of the two countries through regular  visits to each other's countries.

He called upon the UAE envoy to take skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled manpower from Bangaldesh.

He urged the Bangladeshi businessmen to submit a report on the potential sectors for the UAE's investment in Bangladesh.

The UAE is the second largest migrant worker destination for Bangladesh. The country earned $2829.40 million from the sector during the fiscal year (FY) 2012-13 which is 20 per cent of the total income through manpower export.

Bangladesh exported goods worth $51.27 million to the UAE and imported $215 million during the FY 2012-13.
