Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu discussed with his Fijian counterpart Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum Tuesday the scope for establishing bilateral cooperation in sugar industry development, reports BSS.
The minister of the Pacific island state led a team of his country to Amu at his office when development of sugar industry got priority in their discussions.
The ministers agreed that the two countries would explore opportunities for exchanging technology and know-how for growth of sugar industry.
Mr Amu sought cooperation from Fiji for conducting BMRE (balancing, modernisation, renovation and expansion) of the country's sugar mills to make them capable of producing enough sugar for export after meeting domestic needs.
The industries minister also said that Bangladesh would export refined sugar to Fiji by importing raw sugar from that country.
Mr Khaiyum emphasised bilateral cooperation for developing sugar industry.
He said Fiji would supply hybrid sugarcane variety to Bangladesh and help in expanding its cultivation at the farm level.
The minister also responded positively to the idea of importing white sugar from Bangladesh after exporting raw sugar from his country.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Garman Asia-Pacific Business Association also met with the industries minister at his office Tuesday.
The delegation discussed the scope for investing in different sectors, including spare parts, textile and ICT.
