FE REPORT | December 15, 2025 00:00:00

Bangladesh is set to buy its second liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from the spot market for 2026, with delivery scheduled for the second week of January.

State-run Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) has sought price quotes from its listed suppliers to purchase one LNG cargo for delivery on January 9-10, a senior RPGCL official told The Financial Express on Sunday.

The volume of the spot LNG cargo is approximately 3.36 million million British thermal unit (MMBtu). The cargo is to be delivered to Moheshkhali Island, with the option to discharge at either of the country's two floating storage re-gasification units (FSRUs) located on the island, the official said.

RPGCL is a part of state-owned Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation, mostly known as Petrobangla, and oversees LNG trading in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has already bought one spot LNG cargo for January delivery, according to the RPGCL official. The country has also bought two spot LNG cargoes for December, three for November, four for October, three for September and five for August delivery windows, he said.

Bangladesh awarded its latest spot LNG cargo tender to TotalEnergies Gas & Power Ltd for a January 4-5 delivery window at $10.37 per MMBtu.
