The Netherlands will provide Bangladesh US$ 1.9 million for expansion of IT and IT-related business in the country.
In this regard an agreement on "Netherlands Trust Fund-III: Bangladesh Project Launching" was signed Friday at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city during the conference of Digital World 2014.
State minister for ICT Division of telecommunications ministry Junaid Ahmed Palak, Netherlands Ambassador to Dhaka Gerben de Jong, Bangladesh Association of Software & Information Services (BASIS) president Shamim Ahsan, and CBI representative Professor Rob Van were present during the agreement signing.
The project will be implemented by Geneva-based International Trade Centre (ITC) with the support of local trade bodies, including BASIS and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).
The fund is being released under NTF III project, which is a continuation of NTF II project that ended recently and contributed significantly to Bangladesh's IT export growth in recent years, said BASIS officials.
In the deal signing ceremony, the speakers said Bangladesh is an example of rapid development in technology adoption among the middle-income countries.
The fund will play an important role to boost local ICT sector for employment generation through creating new business, they added.
The NTF III partnership agreement was signed by ITC executive director Jean-Marie Paugam and CBI, Netharlands managing director Hans Klunder at the World Trade Organization headquarters in Geneva recently.
In the accord, the European country announced to provide 6.0 million Euro to four countries, including Bangladesh.
