Bangladesh will seek investment from Brunei in different potential sectors during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit starting tomorrow.

Commerce secretary Md Mofizul Islam, who is accompanying the premier on her trip to the small south-east Asian country, made the disclosure.

Hasina along with high government officials and a business delegation will visit the sultanate from Sunday to Tuesday.

"We'll woo Bruneian entrepreneurs to invest in halal meat production, pharmaceuticals, ICT, tourism and other potential sectors in Bangladesh," Mr Islam said.

Bangladesh delegates will also request Bruneian businessmen to invest in ceramic, leather and jute goods sectors for mutual benefits of the two countries.

"We'll further talk to the Bruneian government to import manpower from Bangladesh during the high-profile visit," Mr Islam told the FE.

Dhaka will request Bandar Seri Begawan to send a delegation to Bangladesh to expedite bilateral cooperation and investment in various sectors, he said.

Hasina will have a parley with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and local businessmen during her tour of the Bruneian capital.

Bangladesh and Brunei have been maintaining excellent mutual relations since the establishment of their diplomatic ties.

Bilateral trade between the two nations is still insignificant despite tremendous opportunities to further boost trade, according to business circles.

Bangladesh mainly exports jute and jute goods, ready-made garment, leather and leather goods to Brunei and imports mainly petroleum products and mineral items.

It exported goods worth $1.12 million to Brunei and imported products around $0.51 million in fiscal year 2017-18.
