BEPZA starts allotting plots in BEPZA Economic Zone

10 cos receive provisional allotment letters

The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) started allotment of plots in the BEPZA Economic Zone on Sunday, with 10 companies receiving the provisional allotment letters.
Executive Chairman of BEPZA Major General Md Nazrul Islam handed over the allotment letters to the investors from home and abroad at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka on Sunday, says a statement.
A total of 70 local and foreign companies have already applied to invest in the BEPZA Economic Zone located at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar in Mirsarai, Chattogram. Of them, 10 companies received the provisional allotment letter.
Of the 10 companies, two each are from the UK, South Korea and China, one each from the USA, Hong Kong and Canada and the remaining one is from Bangladesh. They proposed making an aggregate investment of US$ 334 million, creating employment for 51,300 Bangladeshi nationals.
Congratulating the new investors, BEPZA Executive Chairman Maj Gen Md Nazrul Islam said BEPZA put its experience of 40 years to good use in developing the BEPZA Economic Zone.
"BEPZA leaves no stone unturned to secure your investment," he said in reference to the safety and security of investment in the Zone.
The Executive Chairman said the investment in BEPZA economic zones increased 79 per cent during January-April 2021, compared to the same period of last year.
BEPZA has been contributing around 20 per cent to the total national export, he said and expressed the hope that this contribution would grow significantly after the BEPZA Economic Zone is added to its eight EPZs.
He reiterated the commitment of BEPZA to provide all sorts of cooperation to the investors within the provision of law.
He also urged the investors to come forward to grow mutually.
On January 24 in 2018, the Prime minister unveiled the foundation stone of the BEPZA Economic Zone stretching over 1150 acres of land at Mirsharai, Chattogram, through a video conference. Later, the development work of BEPZA Economic Zone gets momentum after approval of the project 'BEPZA Economic Zone, Mirsharai 1st phase' at ECNEC meeting.
All sorts of facilities would be added gradually to make BEPZA Economic Zone a smart, green zone. A total of 539 industrial plots would be ready for setting up about 350 industrial units after the completion of the total development work.
General Manager (Investment Promotion) Md. Tanvir Hossain highlighted the overall scenario, including the development work of BEPZA Economic Zone, at the beginning of the programme. Member (Investment Promotion) Md. Mahmudul Hossain Khan, Member (Engineering) Mohammad Faruque Alam, Member (Finance) Nafisa Banu, Secretary Md. Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, General Manager (PR) Nazma Binte Alamgir, General Manager (ES) Md. Khorshid Alam, Project Director of BEPZA EZ Md. Hafizur Rahman and high officials of BEPZA were also present.
