Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) organised a training programme on 'Trade diplomacy and international trade negotiation' that began in the city on Sunday.
Md Saiful Islam, President of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) and a member of the Board of Directors of BFTI, inaugurated the four-day training at the BFTI conference room. Chief Executive Officer of BFTI Dr Md Zafar Uddin presided over the event, says a press release.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, Saiful Islam said the country's GDP has been growing at over 6.5 per cent annual rate over the last one decade, with the private sector playing a notably positive and significant role in driving the country's economy forward.
The most significant accomplishment for the economy over the past 50 years has been the establishment of a robust private sector, aided by government policy support, he added.
He also highlighted the need for improving the skills of stakeholders involved in trade diplomacy and negotiations to successfully establish effective trade agreements with prospective countries.
Dr Md Zafar Uddin said BFTI has been working to enhance knowledge and expertise in trade and commerce through training programmes aimed at individuals from both the public and private sectors.
BFTI Director Md Obaidul Azam delivered the welcome address. A total of 26 representatives from different ministries and departments, trade associations, chambers and import-export companies are taking part in this training programme which will continue until August 30.
