The Bangladesh German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BGCCI) hosted an Iftar party in the capital recently, says a statement.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu attended the Iftar party as the chief guest.

Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan was present as the special guest.

BGCCI President Barrister Omar Sadat welcomed the minister, the NBR chairman, leaders of different other trade bodies, businessmen and other guests who joined the Iftar Mahfil.

The industries minster, in his speech, thanked the BGCCI president and its members for extending support to the government to build a strong economy for Bangladesh.

Shedding a light on the relationship between Germany and Bangladesh, the minister said: "Germany has been our friend since liberation (of Bangladesh in 1971)."

"West Germany was the first country to recognise us among all the European countries. They have helped our economy by building a strong bondage with trade and investment. We are grateful and thankful to them," he said.

He also stressed the need for increasing exchange of knowledge and technology between two countries.

"We want German technology to help our industries (develop further)," he said.

"Germany has a reputation for inventing cutting edge world class technology which is being used worldwide. We want their technologies to enrich our industries and our lives," he added.

NBR Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan also expressed his gratitude to the members of the BGCCI who are sharing their hard-earned money in the form of TAX to help the Bangladesh government.

He praised the BGCCI for arranging such kind of gathering "which encourages bonding among the likeminded business people".

BGCCI President Omar Sadat expressed the hope that such initiatives taken by the trade body will help its members understand true meaning of solidarity.

He mentioned that Ramadan is a month of blessings and sacrifice where people connect with each other.

"Considering the holy month of Ramadan I think that such gatherings provide excellent opportunities to increase the bondage between us as human beings," he said.

"Ours unity is the solution to many problems that we are facing in this world right now," he added.
