A Mexican retail chain shop, Coppel, has expressed their interest to buy bicycles, home textiles and apparel items from Bangladesh to further strengthen its trade relation with the country.
A 10-member delegation from the leading retailer is expected to visit Bangladesh from July 7 to July 10 next to explore necessary products here, according to a recent communication of the Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico with the commerce ministry.
Founded in 1941, the company has around 1,000 department stores in 600 cities across Mexico and has around 30 million customers.
Coppel purchases cell phones and accessories for its department stores, computers and accessories, products, bicycles, motorcycles, tires, luggage, linen, furniture and household appliances, jewellery and household appliances including home appliances, electronics, clothing and footwear.
Its total volume of sales was more than US$ 12 billion in 2021.
Coppel has been maintaining a satisfactory trade relation with Bangladesh for the last few years when their imports increased to $ 20 million gradually from initial $ 5.0 million.
Coppel sought cooperation of the government of Bangladesh to meet the local manufacturers and suppliers of readymade garments (RMG), home textiles, undergarments, jute goods, bicycles and home appliances.
They are interested in importing products that are not made in China due to higher tariffs, according to the communication.
