Many of the employees of Biman Bangladesh Airlines have opposed the decision of the state flag carrier to appoint foreigners at its supreme post -- managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO).
They said there are many people in the country having knowledge of aviation but Biman is going to appoint South-African born British citizen Kyle Haywood as its new MD and CEO.
"The authority of Biman is again going to appoint a foreigner as its next MD and CEO but we are opposing the decision as there are many persons in the country skilled enough to hold the post", a general manager (GM) of Biman told the FE.
He said the government wants to make Biman profitable with the appointment of a foreigner but there are also qualified experts in the country to achieve the goal.
"Bangladeshi nationals are now holding top posts at foreign airlines but why is the Biman authority ignoring the local experts?" he questioned.
In a recent meeting of the Biman Board of Directors, the selection committee approved a proposal to appoint Mr Kyle Haywood, who is now working as MD of South African low-cost airline company 'Fastjet', as the next MD and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Another GM of Biman said, "For the next chief of Biman, the authority demands some requirements which could be met by a Bangladeshi national; so there are qualified local people to be selected for the post".
