bKash, Bishwo Shahitto Kendro promote book reading programme

Students of Mohammadpur Preparatory School and college hold books as they pose with the guests at the inaugural ceremony of a book reading programme at the college auditorium in the city on Sunday. Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in association with bKash Limited organised the event.

Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in association with bKash Limited, a leading mobile financial service provider, has expanded its book reading programme in the city by bringing the students of Mohammadpur Preparatory School and college under it, says a statement.

Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Founder and Chief Executive of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, Dr. M Tamim, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the institution and a professor of BUET, and Kamal Quadir, Chief Executive Officer of bKash Limited, inaugurated the book reading programme and handed over books to the students on Sunday.

Maj Gen Sheikh Md Monirul Islam (retd), Chief External & Corporate Affairs Officer of bKash and Selina Banu, Vice Principal of the school, were also present at the programme held at the college auditorium.

bKash has been supporting the 'Nationwide Enrichment (Book Reading) Programme' of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro since 2014 and provided around 140,000 books for the programme, including 38,000 in 2017.

Under the programme, each student will get an opportunity to read 12 to 16 books throughout the year. Around 30,000 students from class VI to X of 400 schools are expected to read the books provided by bKash this year.

Bishwo Shahitto Kendro has been carrying out various outreach programmes for school and college students in the last 38 years with a dream of building an enlightened society. Currently, the book reading programme covers around 200,000 students of 2,000 educational institutions.

Launched in 2011, bKash, a joint venture of BRAC Bank, US-based Money in Motion, International Finance Corporation of World Bank Group and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, offers complete mobile financial services to the common people.
