BMCCI urges govt to sign free trade deal with Malaysia

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, MP, receiving a bouquet from BMCCI President Nasir A Choudhury while newly elected BMCCI Board of Directors called on him at the Ministry on Sunday.

Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) has urged the government to sign free trade agreement with Malaysia.

They made the appeal during a meeting with Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu at the ministry.

The BMCCI delegation was led by its president Nasir A. Choudhury who was elected for the term 2014-15 on January 30.

Among others, Vice President of BMCCI ASM Mainuddin Monem, Directors Helal Ahmed Chowdhury, Mohammed Lakiotullah, Ashraful H. Chowdhury, Kamal Mostafa Chowdhury, Engr. Mohammad Badrul Hassan, Secretary Hasanur Rahman Chowdhury and Industries Ministry Secretary Moin Abdullah were present during the meeting,

BMCCI urged the government to undertake initiatives to promote relocation of Malaysian sunset industries here and to take steps to make Bangladesh a source country for manpower export to the South Asian country.

The BMCCI sought the help, cooperation and full support of Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia to successfully organise Showcase Bangladesh 2014 in Kuala Lumpur which will be held in September.

BMCCI also urged the government to undertake measures to increase connectivity between Chittagong and Penang ports.

The Industries Minister urged the businessmen to work for closing the trade gap between Bangladesh and Malaysia by increasing export volume.

During a briefing after the meeting, Amir Hossain Amu said Malaysia has showed its interest to take more skilled labour from Bangladesh.

He hoped that the number of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia would be 1.5 million in the next two years.
