Body formed to ensure setting up of standard solar panels

FE Report | March 23, 2015 00:00:00

The government has formed a committee with view to ensuring setting up of standard solar panels across the country, officials said.

The committee was formed mainly due to increase in the use and popularity of green energy. Besides, the move is undertaken in line with the government's plan to meet 5.0 per cent of total electricity demand from the green/solar energy by 2015 and 10 per cent by 2020.

Member of the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) is the convener of the committee. Other members on the committee have been included from the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), Local Government Division (LGD), Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) and secretary of the SREDA.

The committee will present a detailed report with commendations about establishment of standard solar panels to the chairman of SREDA shortly. The chairman of the SREDA will also send the report to the secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) for his consent. The report will be finalised after getting his consent.
