CHITTAGONG, June 21 (UNB) : Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has decided to buy the oil spilled from a furnace oil-carrying train that plunged into a canal at Benguria in Boalkhali upazila on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mesbah Uddin said this after visiting the spot along with acting secretary of Railways Ministry Feroz Salah Uddin on Sunday.

He said it is very important to remove the spilled oil from the canal, and local people have been engaged to remove it.

"BPC officials are visiting the spot and they'll buy the spilled oil from locals at Tk 30 per litre," he said.

Two oil-carrying wagons of a train plunged into a canal at Benguira in Boalkhali upazila on Friday noon as a bridge collapsed with the tankers on Chittagong-Dohazari rail track.

The two wagons of the train were carrying 33,640 litres of furnace oil each.

Visiting the spot, Railway Director General Amzad Hossain told reporters that they have started work to resume Chittagong-Dohajari train service.

"The wagons will be salvaged and then the bridge will be repaired.

So, it'll take some time to resume the train movement," he said.
